Use Contain if you want the full image visible with clean margins. Use Cover if you want each PDF page fully filled. For lighter PDF files, switch compression to Force JPEG and lower the quality slightly.
An image-based PDF is useful for scans, receipts, evidence photos, signatures, and design proofs, but page order and readability matter more than simply placing each image on a sheet. Reorder or rotate images, choose page size and orientation, set fit mode, margins, background, and compression, then open the final PDF to inspect every page.
Use thumbnails to place covers, forms, receipts, or scan pages in reading order. Reverse and sort-by-name controls are helpful only when filenames are reliable. Rotate individual sideways pages and remove duplicates or failed shots. A clean sequence reduces confusion for reviewers and prevents a missing page from hiding in the middle of a large download.
Contain preserves the whole image but can add empty space; cover can fill the page by cropping an edge. A4, Letter, custom image-sized pages, and orientation choices produce different results. Set a white background for ordinary documents or another deliberate color when transparent PNG areas need it. Inspect signatures, borders, and text near every edge.
The resulting PDF packages pixels into pages. Text inside a scan may look readable but is not automatically searchable, selectable, or accessible to a screen reader. Use OCR software for records that need search or copy behavior, and verify OCR accuracy against the source. Compression can also soften small print, so choose quality from the hardest page.
