To convert a PDF to JPG, drop the PDF into the box above. Image Format is already set to JPG. Keep the pages you want selected, then select Convert Selected to ZIP to download them all, or use the Download button on any page for a single image. Pages are rendered at 2x resolution by default.
How to convert PDF to JPG
- Add the PDF. Drag a PDF onto the drop area or select Select PDF File. Every page appears as a thumbnail, and all pages start selected.
- Choose the format and size. Set Image Format to JPG or PNG and pick a Resolution Scale. For JPG, the JPG Quality slider runs from 50% to 100% (92% by default).
- Pick pages. Type a range such as
1-3,5, oroddoreven, in Page Range and press Enter or select Apply Range. Quick Select options apply straight away. You can also tick or untick pages on their cards. - Download. Select Convert Selected to ZIP for all selected pages, or Download on a single card for one image.
PDF to JPG or PDF to PNG: which should you pick?
The converter makes both. It starts on JPG, so switch Image Format to PNG if that's what you need.
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Small, set by the quality slider | Several times larger for photos |
| Text and line art | Slight blur around letters at low quality | Sharp, no compression artifacts |
| Photos and scans | Good choice | Large files for little gain |
| Accepted by upload forms | Almost everywhere | Most places |
For a slide, form or page of text you'll post or edit, PNG keeps every edge crisp. For scanned documents, photos, or anything going into an email or an upload form with a size limit, JPG at 85-92% is the better trade.
PDF to JPG high quality: choosing the resolution
A PDF page has no fixed pixel size, so the converter draws each page at the scale you pick. At 1x, one PDF point becomes one pixel, which equals 72 DPI.
| Resolution Scale | Equivalent DPI | A4 page in pixels | Letter page in pixels |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1x Standard | 72 | 595 x 841 | 612 x 792 |
| 1.5x Better | 108 | 892 x 1262 | 918 x 1188 |
| 2x High (default) | 144 | 1190 x 1683 | 1224 x 1584 |
| 3x Ultra | 216 | 1785 x 2525 | 1836 x 2376 |
2x is sharp on phones and laptops and fine for sharing. Use 3x when you need to zoom into small print, print the image, or run it through OCR. Higher scales make bigger files and take longer, so for a long PDF at 3x, convert it in batches of pages.
What changes when you convert a PDF to an image
The image is a flat picture of the page. Text can no longer be selected or searched, and links stop working. Transparent areas are filled with white.
If you need the words rather than a picture, use PDF to Text or the PDF to Word converter. If you only need a few pages as a PDF, Split PDF keeps them sharp at any zoom.
Password-protected PDFs won't open in the converter. PDFs up to 500 MB are accepted, but a long document at 3x needs a lot of memory, which can slow a phone down.
How to convert PDF to JPG on a Mac
Open the PDF in Preview, choose File › Export, and set Format to JPEG or PNG. Preview saves one page per export, so it's slow for long documents. The converter on this page exports every selected page in one go, names the files by page number (for example report-images-page-001.jpg), and packs them into a single ZIP. As a PDF to image converter, it works the same in any browser on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF to JPG for free?
Drop the PDF into the converter on this page and select Convert Selected to ZIP. Image Format is set to JPG already. It's free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Can I convert a PDF to PNG instead?
Yes. Switch Image Format to PNG before converting. It keeps text and lines sharp but makes larger files than JPG.
How do I convert just one page of a PDF to JPG?
Load the PDF and select the Download button on that page's card. You get a single image instead of a ZIP.
What resolution are the images?
The default 2x setting renders pages at 144 DPI, which makes an A4 page about 1190 x 1683 pixels. Choose 3x Ultra for 216 DPI.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Pages are rendered with PDF.js in your browser and the ZIP is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I convert the images back into a PDF?
Yes. Add them to the JPG to PDF converter to combine them into one PDF again.
