To convert WebP to PNG, drop your .webp files into the box above. Output format is already set to PNG, so select Convert all. Each image is decoded and saved as a lossless PNG in your browser, and transparent backgrounds stay transparent. Download the PNGs from their cards or all at once with Download all (ZIP).
How to convert WebP to PNG
- Add the WebP images. Drag .webp files onto the drop area or select Select images. One batch takes up to 500 files or 2 GB.
- Keep PNG as the output. Output format shows PNG (.png). Switch it to JPG only if you need a smaller file without transparency.
- Set a size limit (optional). Enter a Max width and Max height to scale larger images down to fit, with proportions kept. Tick Allow upscaling to enlarge smaller ones too. Leave both empty for the original size.
- Convert and download. Select Convert all, then Download on any card or Download all (ZIP) for everything.
Why convert WebP to PNG instead of JPG?
Pick PNG when the image has a transparent background, contains text or sharp lines, or is going to be edited. PNG is lossless, so the converted file keeps exactly what you see in the WebP, and it won't lose anything more no matter how many times you open and re-save it.
Logos, icons, stickers, screenshots and cut-out product images saved from websites are usually best as PNG. For ordinary photos without transparency, JPG is the more practical choice because the file is much smaller. For those, use the WebP to JPG converter.
WebP to transparent PNG: how the background carries over
WebP stores transparency the same way PNG does, as an alpha value for every pixel. During conversion that value is carried over, so fully transparent areas stay empty and soft edges, glows and shadows keep their partial transparency. The preview on each card shows the image without any background fill.
The converter can't create transparency that wasn't there. If the WebP has a white or colored background, the PNG will have the same background. You'd need a background removal tool for that. To check whether an image really is transparent, open the PNG in an editor and look for the checkerboard pattern behind it.
How to save a WebP as PNG on Windows and Mac
Built-in apps can do one file at a time:
- Windows: right-click the .webp file, choose Open with › Paint, then File › Save as and pick PNG.
- Mac: open the file in Preview, choose File › Export, set Format to PNG and save.
The converter on this page is quicker for many files at once, and it works the same in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, including on phones.
Does converting WebP to PNG improve quality?
No. Most WebP images on the web are lossy, and any blur or blockiness from that compression is already part of the pixels. The PNG preserves those pixels exactly, flaws included. What PNG does is stop further loss, which matters if you plan to edit and save the image several times.
Expect a much larger file: a lossy WebP photo can become several times bigger as a PNG. If size matters, shrink the dimensions with Max width, or compress the result afterwards with the PNG compressor.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WebP to PNG for free?
Drop the WebP files into the converter on this page and select Convert all. PNG is the default output, and there's no sign-up, watermark or upload.
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are kept in the PNG, so cut-out images keep their transparent background.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP?
PNG is lossless and doesn't throw away detail to save space, while most WebP files are lossy. The same image therefore takes more bytes as a PNG.
Can I convert .webp to PNG in bulk?
Yes. Add up to 500 WebP files or 2 GB in one batch, convert them together and download a single ZIP.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, so you get a still PNG image.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the files never leave your device.
