Word counter or character counter?

Use the word counter for essays, articles and reports. Besides words, it shows reading time, speaking time, reading level and keyword density, and it flags repeated phrases.

Use the character counter when a platform limits characters rather than words. It counts characters with and without spaces, plus UTF-8 bytes. Its limit bars turn amber near and red over the limits for X, Instagram, SMS, meta descriptions, YouTube titles and LinkedIn. An emoji or an accented letter counts as one character, the way most apps count it.

How to clean up text copied from a PDF

Text copied out of a PDF or an old email often has a line break at the end of every line. Remove Line Breaks joins those lines with a space, a comma or a pipe. The same tool can drop empty lines, duplicate lines and repeated spaces, or change the case.

For changes to specific words, Find and Replace shows every match with its line number before you replace it. Regex mode supports $1 capture groups, which helps with jobs like swapping first and last names. If the text is still inside a PDF, get it out with PDF to Text first.

Text converters for code and data

The binary translator and Hex to Text decode bytes into readable text and encode text back, in UTF-8 or ASCII. Both detect the direction from what you paste. Is the text I paste saved or sent anywhere?

Counting, cleaning and converting all happen in your browser. Text leaves your device only if you choose an optional AI feature, such as Review writing in the word counter.

Does the character counter include spaces?

It shows both. You get one count with spaces and one without, next to words, sentences, lines and UTF-8 bytes.

How do I remove line breaks from text?

Paste the text into Remove Line Breaks, keep Remove line breaks ticked and select Clean text. Each break is replaced with a space by default.

Can I check a post against the X or Instagram limit?

Yes. The character counter has limit bars for X, Instagram, SMS, LinkedIn and more, and you can type your own limit in the custom field.

What is lorem ipsum?

Lorem ipsum is placeholder text based on a passage from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), with words cut and rearranged. Designers use it to fill a layout before the real copy is ready.
