To convert HEIC to JPG, drop your .heic photos into the box above, leave the output set to JPG, and select Convert all. Each photo is decoded and saved as a JPG in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Download the files one at a time or together as a ZIP.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Add your photos. Drag .heic or .heif files onto the drop area, or select Select files. On an iPhone, choose Browse and pick the photos from the Files app.
  2. Check the output settings. JPG is selected by default with 90% quality, which keeps photos sharp and cuts the file size. Pick PNG if you need a lossless copy.
  3. Convert. Select Convert all. A progress bar shows each photo as it finishes.
  4. Download. Save single photos from their cards, or select Download all (ZIP) to get every JPG in one file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the photo format Apple has used on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11 in 2017. The name stands for High Efficiency Image Container. It stores a picture using HEVC (H.265) compression, the same method used for 4K video, so a HEIC photo is often about half the size of a JPG of the same quality.

The catch is support. Windows, many Android phones, older editing apps and a lot of upload forms on websites still don't read HEIC. That's why a photo that looks fine on your iPhone can show up as a blank icon or an "unsupported file" error somewhere else. Converting it to JPG gives you a copy that opens almost everywhere.

HEIC vs JPG: which one should you keep?

Keep the original HEIC files if they stay in your Apple devices or iCloud Photos. Convert to JPG when you need to share, upload, print or edit photos outside Apple's apps.

How to open HEIC files on Windows, Mac and iPhone

If you only have a few photos and you'd rather not convert them, your device may be able to open them directly.

Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows

Windows 10 and 11 can open HEIC photos once you install two add-ons from the Microsoft Store: HEIF Image Extensions (free) and HEVC Video Extensions (a small paid add-on). After that, the Photos app opens them and can save a copy as JPG. If you don't want to install anything, drop the files into the converter on this page instead. It works the same in Edge, Chrome and Firefox.

Convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac

Macs open HEIC natively. To make a JPG, open the photo in Preview, choose File › Export, set Format to JPEG and save. For a whole folder, select the photos in Finder, right-click and choose Quick Actions › Convert Image.

Stop your iPhone saving photos as HEIC

Go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you've already taken stay as HEIC. Another option is Settings › Photos › Transfer to Mac or PC › Automatic, which converts photos to JPG when you copy them to a computer with a cable.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

A little, because JPG uses older, less efficient compression. At the default 90% quality you won't see a difference on a phone or computer screen, and prints look the same. The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC it came from, which is normal.

Choose PNG instead when you plan to edit the photo several times, since re-saving a JPG again and again slowly adds artifacts. PNG files are much larger, though, so JPG is the better choice for sharing.

Is it safe to convert private photos here?

Yes. The converter runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. Your photos are read from your device, converted in memory and handed back to you as downloads. They are never sent to ToolzyLab or anyone else, and they disappear when you close the tab.

One useful side effect: the JPGs you download don't carry the original photo's EXIF details, such as the camera model and GPS location, because each image is redrawn when it's converted. If you need to keep that information, convert on your own device with Preview or the Windows Photos app.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Drop your HEIC photos into the converter at the top of this page and select Convert all. It's free, there's no sign-up, and there's no watermark on the JPGs.

Can I convert several HEIC files to JPG at once?

Yes. You can add up to 500 photos, or 2 GB in total, in one batch and download them all as a single ZIP file.

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows doesn't include a HEIC decoder by default. You can add one with the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store, or convert the photos to JPG so they open without any extra software.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens in your browser on your own device. The photos never leave your computer or phone.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG instead of JPG?

Yes. Change the Output setting to PNG before converting. PNG keeps the full detail and supports transparency, but the files are several times larger than JPGs.

Does this work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap Select files and pick the photos. On iPhone the converted JPGs save to the Files app, and you can then save them to Photos.

What's the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF is the name of the image format standard. HEIC is HEIF with HEVC compression and the .heic extension. Apple made it the iPhone default in 2017, and many Samsung and other Android phones can save it too. This converter accepts both .heic and .heif files.
