To flip a coin, select Flip the coin or press the Space bar. The coin spins for about two seconds and lands on heads or tails, each with a 50% chance. Your heads and tails counts, percentages and current streak update after every toss, and each result is added to Flip history.
How to flip a coin online
- Pick a coin. Choose Classic Mint, Royal Crown, Crescent Star or Eagle Seal under Coin design. The design changes the look only, never the odds.
- Flip it. Select Flip the coin or press Space. The side that landed appears under the coin, with your current streak.
- Flip again or automate. Flip as often as you like, or select Start auto flip to keep tossing until you stop it.
- Check your stats. The counters under the coin show flips, heads, tails, the current streak and your best streak. Copy stats copies them as text.
Is a coin flip really 50/50?
On this page, yes. Each toss uses your browser's crypto.getRandomValues(), the same random source browsers use for security keys, and turns it into heads or tails with no bias toward either side. Every flip is independent, so five heads in a row doesn't make tails more likely next time. There is no way to force a side, and every toss counts in your stats.
Real coins are slightly different. In a study led by František Bartoš, volunteers flipped coins from 46 currencies 350,757 times. The coin landed on the same side it started on 50.8% of the time, close to the roughly 51% an earlier physics model by Diaconis, Holmes and Montgomery predicted. There was no meaningful bias toward heads or tails. If you toss a real coin to settle something, hide which side faces up first.
Flip a coin 3 times, 10 times or 100 times
For a few tosses, tap Flip the coin after each result. For long runs, set Flip speed to Fast, move Pause between auto flips to 0.5 sec and select Start auto flip. A fast flip takes about 1.2 seconds plus the pause, so 100 flips take roughly three minutes. Auto flip doesn't stop on its own: select Reset session first, then watch the flip counter and stop at the number you want.
Here are the odds for some common runs with a fair coin:
| Outcome | Chance |
|---|---|
| 3 heads in 3 flips | 12.5% (1 in 8) |
| Exactly 2 heads in 3 flips | 37.5% |
| Exactly 50 heads in 100 flips | About 8% |
| Between 40 and 60 heads in 100 flips | About 96.5% |
| A streak of 6 or more in 100 flips | About 81% |
Long streaks are normal in random data, so don't be surprised when Best streak climbs past 6.
Best of 3, 5, 7 or 9
Pick a length under Best of series (Best of 5 is the default) and select Play best of 5. The coin flips on its own until one side has a majority, so a best of 3 ends as soon as heads or tails wins twice. The popup then shows the winner, the score and the full sequence.
If you need more than two outcomes, roll a die with the dice roller, draw from a list with the random name picker, or pick any number in a range with the random number generator.
Just flip a coin: a quick way to decide
Agree on who calls heads before you flip, and agree the result is final. For a personal choice, give each option a side and flip. If the result disappoints you, that tells you which option you really wanted.
Frequently asked questions
Does heads or tails come up more often?
Neither does on this page. With real coins, a study of 350,757 flips found a coin lands on the side it started on about 50.8% of the time, but found no bias toward heads or tails.
How do I flip a coin 100 times?
Set Flip speed to Fast and the pause to 0.5 sec, select Reset session, then Start auto flip. Stop it when the flip counter reaches 100, after about three minutes.
What are the odds of getting heads 3 times in a row?
One in 8, or 12.5%. Each fair flip has a 1 in 2 chance of heads, and 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8.
Can I make the coin land on heads?
No. There is no way to force a side. Every result comes from your browser's random generator, and every toss counts in your stats and history.
Are my flips saved?
Yes, in your browser's local storage. Your counts, streaks and the last 80 flips stay after a reload until you select Reset session or Clear. Nothing is sent to a server.
